CRTC finalizes rates to boost affordable Internet competition

The CRTC has finalized its approach and set final rates for competitors’ access to large telephone companies’ fibre networks on April 24, 2026.

• Final decision and rates: The CRTC finalized rates that competitors will pay to access incumbent fibre networks, replacing interim rates; these final rates are based on actual costs using the CRTC’s long-standing cost-based methodology and are similar to the interim rates that competitors have already been using. The decision follows the CRTC allowing competitors to use incumbents’ fibre since February 2025 and notes competitors have announced plans to deliver new choices for up to 8.5 million Canadian households.
