CityFibre awarded Project Gigabit contract to build Suffolk network

BDUK and CityFibre agreed to redesign the Suffolk Project Gigabit contract in May 2026.

• Contract redesign (May 2026): The contract was redesigned to cover around 60,000 premises in Suffolk and is backed with up to £118.2 million investment through Project Gigabit; the redesign minimises overlap with other suppliers’ commercial rollout and BDUK is in discussions with other suppliers to reach remaining premises.
• Original award and background: The original contract was awarded in June 2023 after procurement, with BDUK awarding CityFibre a £100.5 million contract to provide around 79,500 premises; first premises were anticipated to have access to gigabit-capable broadband in 2024, BDUK will work with Suffolk County Council and suppliers on build plans, and the government provides up to £210 million of voucher funding under Project Gigabit for rural areas.
